Speculation Mounts Over Verge (XVG) Partnership: Is it PayPal, Porn or Amazon?

question mark

Last month “Sunerok”, Verge Chief Developer, teased that Verge was on the edge of a historic partnership with “a global organisation”, a partnership which would forever change the world of crypto. The counterparty was “a global organisation that controls a vast network of super high-traffic sites” and could bring in “hundreds of millions of consumers daily”.

For the alliance to proceed they just needed some more funds, and the vergefam, the name given to the Verge community, responded in a crowdfunding initiative.

Sunerok then announced that the partnership was a done deal but the details would not be announced until April 17th. He said that he was bound by a non-disclosure agreement not to reveal the identity of the partner, but promised that “everybody that’s been in Verge waiting for this is going to be really happy”, and that this would be the “largest cryptocurrency collaboration to ever hit the market”.

In fact, not only would Verge gain a new partner, but they would be launching, “a global marketing campaign the likes of which you have never seen before”.

Ever since then speculation has been mounting about just who that partner might be, and some pretty big names being suggested.

This speculation has kept Verge buoyant in recent weeks, while other cryptocurrencies have suffered. It is currently trading at $0.068889, double its price from two weeks ago, despite a spate of bad news (or “fud”, according to the most loyal of the vergefam).

Partner Speculation

Some in the community have speculated that the privacy aspects of XVG might have attracted the eye of an internet company whose customers like to keep their purchases quiet: specifically an online pornography company like PornHub.

However, this has drawn blowback. One Reddit user spoke for many, saying that it could not be porn related as, “Justin [i.e. Sunerok] has mentioned there’ll be a press release and on the news. when do you see porn related news on tv or have press release?

A commenter on Verge’s Facebook page also dismissed the option. “It’s not porn hub that’s ludicrous, biggest partnership in crypto and people are guessing porn hub 🙄🙄🙄”. he said, before raising another popular candidate for the mysterious partner. “More like PayPal”, he suggested, as it is the “biggest in its industry” and had been “patenting crypto related ideas lately”.

The PayPal option has been gaining a lot of traction recently as PayPal updated its privacy terms to be effective April 19th, soon after the Verge announcement. Many of the vergefam are betting on this option, pointing out that “Ebay is adding another provider they have to do something to compete”.

Two other names being thrown around at the moment are Mastercard and Amazon, though even for the generally optimistic vergefam, these seem less likely.

Ramping up the speculation

Verge has done nothing to calm the speculation, in fact, it has been stoking it. In an Instagram post today it asked, “who will be the partner of Verge and change the Cryptoworld as we know it?

Answers included Facebook, Amazon, Wikipedia and eBay.

We can only expect the speculation to get wilder until April 17th. Then, however, after all the hype, Verge run the risk of disappointing their followers. Unless, that is, they really have managed to snag one of the biggest names in the world — an Amazon, an eBay or a Facebook.
