Swiss-French Bank’s New International Transfer System Powered by Ripple is Up and Running

Multinational financial institution, Crédit Agricole next bank, has announced that its testnet for cross-border fund transfers that runs on the Ripple blockchain is now live.

The system not only aims to support international payments but have foreign exchange transactions and currency trading as standard. Such operations are currently being executed between Crédit Agricole next bank accounts, based in Switzerland, and Crédit Agricole des Savoie accounts in France.

The bank’s head of the data department, Nicolas Frances, was quick to point out, however, that adoption of the Ripple blockchain for the processing of payments is not inherent support of the XRP token. Their implementation is primarily to increase speed and efficiency of digital fiat to mimic cash transactions. Crédit Agricole CEO Catherine Galvez:

What we’re testing right now is to provide the same experience as cash, with instant transactions from one account to another, but in a much simpler and more secure way. The associated fees would also be more transparent. We want to offer a premium service, both on rates and user experience, with this technology.”

Crédit Agricole next bank supports 45,000 customers, 8,000 of which joined just last year. They have set targets in place to recruit a further 55,000 customers by 2023.

The testnet will run until June of this year.

The First Decentralized App on the Qtum (QTUM) Blockchain is now Live

It’s been officially announced that Bodhi (BOT), a prediction market platform, has been deployed on the Qtum mainnet, marking the first decentralized app to go live on the new mainnet.

Currently in its beta phase, Bodhi enables user the ability to take advantage of overall  public sentiment to more accurately predict future outcomes of finance, politics, sports and other global events.

The process is as follows: a user creates prediction events in which other users can participate in by betting for or against the proposed outcome. At the events closure, a decentralized judiciary system, named ‘the oracle mechanism’, sets the result and distributes rewards for the parties who predicted correctly.

Users with correct predictions are awarded the original event-tokens decided by interest generated by the submitted event, as well as additional payments that act as incentives. It’s native token, BOT, power all transactions within the Bodhi platform.

Patrick Dai, founder of Qtum, had this to say on its launch:

We’re excited to have Bodhi lead the way by launching the first DApp on Qtum. Bodhi is serverless and runs on blockchain, it’s a real working decentralized application and that’s what this is all about,”

While the Bodhi platform is now live, some countries are currently restricted for use by pending local regulations from individual governments.

MEW issue “Pro-Tips” on how to stay safe following a DNS attack

Popular crypto wallet My Ether Wallet (MEW) has issued some advice on “How Not to get Scammed & Phished

As we reported yesterday, a DNS attack on the MEW website led to wallets automatically withdrawn to an address which later on moved the funds to different location.

According to multiple reports, the stolen tokens were in the equivalent of at least $150,000 USD.

Below we have included some steps, which you should always consider when creating on accessing your wallet, as advised by MEW.

1 – Makes sure you install EtherAddressLookup or MetaMask. Both addons work well on Chrome Browser and will initiate warnings if the site is not secure for you to use.

2 — If you receive a link to a token sale in your inbox or social media for MEW, Etherdelta, Shapeshift or other cryptocurrency services, do not open it. Such links could lead you to phishing pages that appear identical to the ones you expect to visit. Instead, do your own research on Google and use one of the top results that is not a sponsored/ad page.

3 — Private keys are called “private” for a reason. When asked to enter it for an airdrop be very suspicious. There is no reason for websites to ask for your private keys in order to send you tokens.

4 — Pay attention to the URL of the website you are visiting. There are numerous phishing techniques, some include hard-to-see symbols and misspelt names. For example, a malicious website address may use “Shapshift” as their url to confuse users looking for the Shapeshift service.

5 — If you are dealing with a token or exchange you are not familiar with, a small amount of research on Google and/or Twitter could relieve a large amount of regret later.

6 — Make sure you visit Twitter to double verify the authenticity of the token and/or website. In the case of visiting a verified Twitter page, make sure the handle is correct. There have been attempts by fraudsters to mislead users by purchasing verified accounts and changing the display name to trick you to click on a phishing link.

7 — Etherscan.io is the best way to check an address before you make a transfer. Check the comments left by the public and make sure the people you are about to send money to are legitimate.

Stellarport’s Decentralized Exchange Launches, Supporting XLM, BTC, LTC, ETH and XRP

XLM cryptocurrency wallet, Stellarport, has officially launched it’s decentralized exchange service, supporting Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP) and of course, Stellar Lumens (XLM).

It acts as a portal to the entire Stellar blockchain, allowing users connectivity between their hardware wallets and the new trading exchange, enabling the submission of bids and transactions almost directly from storage. Stellarport also supports account management tools including trading histories, overviews of assets and details of open offers.

The new service also supports any device – PC desktop, mobile and tablet.

Interest in decentralized exchanges has grown since several high profile hacks of cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide. The largest heist in blockchain history came towards the end of January this year, in which Japanese exchange Coincheck was targeted by hackers in a theft of 500 million NEM (XEM) tokens, worth roughly US$534 million at the time.

A decentralized exchange does not rely on any one entity to hold and protect a customer’s assets. Exchanges such as Stellarport operate through an automated peer-to-peer system, removing single points of failure from the network. The decentralized system also results in minimal to no trading fees and eliminates downtime.

However, this does put more onus on the user to keep their cryptocurrencies safe and machines completely free of compromise to maintain individual security.

Ripple (XRP) Coming to the Revolut App Within Days

International payment network, Revolut, has confirmed that Ripple’s native token, XRP, will be added to its platform within the week.

Revolut is a digital banking alternative that seeks to bridge the gap between cryptocurrencies and the traditional banking world by enabling users to directly link their bank accounts with their digital assets. It currently only supports Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin, but with the addition of XRP support, it will mean that XRP holders can exchange freely between any supported cryptocurrencies using just the Revolut app.

Users can then convert their cryptocurrency funds into any of the 25 supported fiat currencies and spend them freely using official Mastercard and Visa prepaid debit cards. They can also send free international money transfers and use their funds as they please, anywhere in the world, with no extra fees.

The app also enables the rounding-up of day-to-day purchases to the nearest dollar, investing the remainder into their chosen cryptocurrency token.

Revolut’s internal system will be expanded specifically for use with the XRP token, unlike other international payment services which incorporates the underlying Ripple blockchain technology, rather than the cryptocurrency itself.

Huobi Pro Wants in on EOS: Starts Supernode Campaign

Leading cryptocurrency exchange, Huobi Pro, has officially put forward its application to become an integral part of the EOS blockchain network by becoming a block producer, or supernode.

EOS has branded itself as a decentralized operating system for blockchains, having inbuilt support for industrial-scale applications. They claim to have eliminated transaction fees and have the capability to process millions of transactions per second. The entire blockchain is powered by smart contracts, much like predominant rival Ethereum.

However, unlike Ethereum who operate on the ‘proof-of-work’ consensus model, which when put simply means miners maintain its distributed ledger system using their computing power, EOS is powered by a system of consensus called delegated proof-of-stake. This means that decision making and mining power is given to selected nodes, in this case named ‘supernodes’.

In an effort to keep some elements of openness and decentralization, EOS demands that those who wish to become supernodes must be elected by it’s continuous approval voting system, meaning a fresh set of delegates must be elected every 21 blocks.

Part of the process is announcing intention for candidacy, which Huobi Pro has recently done through Twitter. Bitfinex, a rival cryptocurrency exchange, also announced its intention through a Medium post.

Originally launched in China, Huobi Pro has expanded rapidly through partnerships across South East Asia, such as an announced deal with SBI Group in December. It is currently the fourth largest digital asset exchange in the world ranked by 24-hour trading volume.

WARNING: MyEtherWallet Has Been Hijacked, Currently Unsafe for Use

Reports are coming from across the globe that claim that bad actors have taken control of the DNS registry of popular Ethereum blockchain interface and ad-hoc ERC-20 wallet MyEtherWallet (MEW) and is siphoning tokens.

Originally brought to light in a reddit post, an affected user described being connected to the MyEtherWallet website through an uncertified certificate. After proceeding to login despite security warnings, the user reported having all of the ETH tokens stored in their wallet removed just seconds after, transferred to this wallet address.

DNS servers are the protocol responsible for translating domain names such as myetherwallet.com into IP addresses.

In this instance, it appears that the MyEtherWallet domain on Google’s Public DNS listing has been replaced with an IP address based in Russia that hosts a malicious version of MyEtherWallet, designed for the phishing of users private keys.

As this story is developing and ongoing, CryptoCoinSpy recommends to avoid using MyEtherWallet until the problem is resolved.

SophiaTX (SPHTX) Gets Green Light to Expand to Asia through Lucrative Partnership

SophiaTX’s parent company, Switzerland’s Venaco Group, has secured a deal with South East Asia’s leading outsourcing accountancy services organization, Cheng & Co.

The strategic partnership will see the integration of the SophiaTX proprietary enterprise fintech platform into applications already widely used by the firm in their business-to-business and information technology projects. It will also see both Venaco and Cheng & Co co-operate further through the opening of two-way business and development advisory channels.

This may just be the break that the upstart blockchain has been waiting for: the SophiaTX platform and marketplace has been specifically tailored to extend those traditional applications used by large financial establishments, namely Customer Relationship Management and Enterprise Resource Planning suites.

Chief Executive Officer of Cheng & Co., Tom Wong, had this to say of what the deal means for their growth:

We have found a great partner in Venaco Group and we believe that by integrating our solutions with its innovative technology, we can create an even more compelling end-to-end value proposition for our clients.”

Cheng & Co is one of the largest home-grown accountancy firms in Malaysia, rapidly expanding worldwide through the acquisition of over twenty smaller firms over the last two decades. Considering such growth, other global operations could be watching the adoption of SophiaTX’s blockchain-based enterprise solution closely with an eye to incorporate the technology themselves as a means of competing.

Siafunds TSO raise $1.5M to support development for Sia project

Decentralised storage platform, Sia has successfully completed their Tokenized Securities Offering (TSO) selling 231 Siafunds at a price of $7,500 USD each.

The reported sum, taking into account presale agreements with three investors prior to the TSO, is reported to be around $1.5M USD.

The team announced in a Medium post that the funds will be immediately put in use for the expansion of the project’s development team. Furthermore, the post confirms that the project has already hired a new core dev in the face of Matt Savey and plans to announce two new team members in the near future.

Sia has two digital assets, the Siacoin — token used to rent storage on the Sia network and Siafund — a digital asset that entitled the holder to a portion of the Siacoins exchanged in every instance in which a file contract is created on the network.

The project launched their fully functioning decentralized storage platform in 2015 and has since been gradually making progress in their quest to challenge industry giants such as Amazon, Google and Dropbox.

In addition to the successful TSO, the Sia team has also confirmed that more information on their 2018 roadmap will be released by the end of the week. You can keep up with the latest from Sia via their Twitter or Medium pages.
